National Institute of Psychology has produced a great number of psychologists since its inception. Now an alumni association is functioning to offer assistance and a platform so that we can bolster the ties between NIP and its alumni. The purpose of NIP- Alumni association is to foster a spirit of loyalty and encourage alumni to promote welfare of current students of NIP.

Constitution of Alumni Association- National Institute of Psychology
(AA-NIP) Approved By Executive Board (20-11-2012)

PREAMBLE

National Institute of Psychology is eager to understand and appreciate the heterogeneity of cultures within Pakistan. The institute nourishes hundreds of students at graduate and post-graduate level yearly. It has a vast orientation of cultural diversity as it is open to students from all areas of the country. The alumni of NIP are spread all over the world, many of them having splendid accomplishments in their personal and professional fields. The alumni were deprived of having a forum to maintain contacts among each other and the institute. The Alumni Association of National Institute of Psychology recognizes the existing special relationship between the Institute and its alumni and wishes to encourage and expand the contacts between the Institute and its alumni. 

Furthermore, the Alumni Association National Institute of Psychology recognizes the importance of alumni in assisting in fund raising for the Institute and in maintaining and raising the stature of the Institute worldwide. In order to expand the unique and special relationship between the Institute and its alumni, the Association hereby proposes to adopt this Constitution for the governance of the Alumni Association-National Institute of Psychology, as a guideline to run this association smoothly and effectively.

ARTICLE I. NAME

Section 1. The name of this organization is Alumni Association-National Institute of Psychology, hereinafter referred to as the “AA-NIP”. 

ARTICLE II. AUTHORITY

Section 1. The association (executive board) will work in consultation with Patron in Chief (Director, NIP).

Section 2. Fiscal Year: The fiscal year of the Association shall run from 1st July to June 30th of the calendar year. 

ARTICLE III. PURPOSE

AA-NIP is eager to develop a team of committed Alumni with the purpose to promote social and professional activities at national and international level. The aim of this Association is to provide a platform to graduates of NIP (psychology) where they can share their achievements. AA-NIP also intend to create and maintain an environment that encourages alumni participation through Volunteerism. 

ARTICLE IV. MEMBERSHIP

Section 1. Categories of Members:

Membership will be open to all graduates of NIP, including former students who have completed their degree and present students/faculty, without regard of race, creed, religion, sexual orientation or national origin. Members will be divided in to four categories:

A. Regular members 

  • Regular membership will be offered to those students who have completed their degree. These members will receive a complimentary copy of all the publications of the association and newsletter of the institute regularly. B. Associated members 
  • This category will include those members who are serving at NIP but are not Alumni. These members will not have the right to vote. These members will receive a copy of all the publications of the association and newsletter. However, associated members will have a right of vote in executive board.
  • C. Student Members
  • Current students can be the student member but they will not have the right to vote in any meeting. They can participate in different ongoing activities of the association but they will not get complimentary copy of any publications of the association.

Honorary Members 

On nomination of the Board of AA-NIP, a person who has made significant contribution to the influence or progress of National Institute of psychology may be selected as honorary member. Associated and Honorary members will have the right of vote in executive board.

Section 2 . Revocation of Membership: The alumni Board may revoke the membership of any individual in the association for good cause, including, but not limited to, actions by an individual which bring disrepute, damage or harm to the stature or reputation of NIP. Any determination to revoke the membership status of any individual is appealable to the President and Patron in chief whose decision shall be final.

Section 3. Dues: Each Member shall pay annual membership fee effective for calendar year ( as mention in Article II section 2) from the date individual’s application for membership is received. 

ARTICLE V. EXECUTIVE BOARD

Section 1. Executive Board shall consist of the following individuals: 

  • Patron in Chief/ Ex-Officio (Director, NIP)
  • President (Elected for Two years)
  • Vice-President (Elected for Two years)
  • Coordinator (NIP faculty, Elected for Two years)
  • General Secretary (NIP faculty, Elected for Two years)
  • Executive Board Members (Three members from NIP faculty and 3 members from Alumni elected for two years)
  • Finance/ Administrative Support Advisor (NIP)

Note: Structure of the board can be modified as per the approval of executive board. 

Section 2. Tenure of Executive Board Members

The term of office for the Members will be two years.

Section 3. Quorum

50% or more members of executive board will constitute the quorum for monthly meetings of executive board. 

Section 4. All members of the executive board must be members in good standing (all dues paid) of the Alumni Board member who is required to be a member in good standing of the Association, he or she shall not be entitled to vote on any matter presented to the Alumni Board, and the presence of such individual shall not count in determining whether a quorum is present. In the event that any member of the Alumni Board ceases to hold his or her position with the Association, such person simultaneously shall cease to be a member of the Alumni Board and shall be succeeded by that person who succeeds to the same position with the Association.

Section 5. Rights of members 

  • 10% discount at all NIP publications 
  • 10% discounts at all workshops and conferences held at NIP
  • Members shall have the right to take part in the general elections of alumni executive board.
  • Members shall have the right of vote for the nominated designations of executive board 
  • Receiving all publications and notices of all general meetings held under the auspices of the Association 
  • Elected members shall have the right to vote for nominated designation

ARTICLE VI. EXECUTIVE BOARD MEMBERS (Roles and Responsibilities)

Section 1 Patron in Chief (Ex-Officio)

  • To work in collaboration with Executive Board members. 
  • Patron in Chief shall advise in all functions of executive board members.
  • Patron in Chief will be finance authority of association 
  • Chief will be patron of publication of association and section of alumni corner in NIP newsletter

Section 2. President

  • President shall chair the meetings of alumni associations
  • President may Call the alumni board meetings
  • Initiate fund raising for the alumni 
  • Will promote networking
  • Will work for job portal
  • Initiate alumni events
  • President will convey decisions taken by 2/3 majority of alumni board to the chief organizer.

Section 3. Vice President 

  • Vice President will work for the development of alumni network in various cities
  • Communication and collaboration with chapters of association in various cities

Section 4. Coordinator

  • Account of association will be managed with the help of one member of executive board (NIP)
  • Will coordinate between association and institute at every level.
  • Will help in implementation of decisions in institute 
  • Projects/ Scholarships will communicate in institute through coordinator

Section 5.  General Secretary

  • Will calls the meetings on the behalf of president
  • Will take the minutes of meetings
  • Dissemination of information regarding all events of alumni association and report of that events
  • Editor of alumni publication

Section 6. Executive Board Members/Advisors 

  • Tasks shall be assigned to the members by president according to the interest of association.
  • Each task shall be handled by one member from alumni and one member from NIP
  • Registration shall be managed by the one members of executive board from NIP
  • The account of association shall be managed by finance/administrator officer with the assistance of one appointed member of executive.

ARTICLE VII. COMMITTEES

Section 1. President with the approval of majority of Executive Board shall have the authority to establish committees and appoint chairs of such committees for different events. 

ARTICLE VIII. MEETINGS

Section 1. Meetings for the Events of the Alumni Association: The Alumni Board shall meet before the organization of Alumni functions or on such other date as may be decided by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the Alumni Board. Written notice of the Alumni meeting shall be given to the members of the Alumni Board at least fifteen days prior to the scheduled meeting date.

Section 2. Special Meetings of the Alumni Executive Board: The Patron in Chief, President and/or the Coordinator may call special meetings of the Alumni Board with the approval of a majority of the members of the Alumni Board. Written notice of such special meeting shall be given to the members of the Alumni executive board at least seven days prior to the scheduled meeting date.

Section 3. Teleconference: Regular or special meetings of the Alumni Board may be held via teleconference upon the approval of a majority of the members of that body.

ARTICLE IX. ANNUAL REPORTS

Section 1. The Secretary in Collaboration with Coordinator of the Association shall prepare an annual report to present at the annual meeting of the Alumni. Additionally, the Patron in Chief and President may present a suggested program of activities and goals for the coming year at the annual Alumni meeting.

ARTICLE X. AMENDMENTS AND PROCEDURES

Section 1. Any amendment to this Constitution shall require the approval of two-thirds (2/3) vote of the Executive board members of the Alumni Association. The Secretary shall provide notice of the proposed amendment(s) to all Alumni executive members not less than 2 weeks prior to such meeting. Such notice shall include a copy of the proposed amendment(s) to the Constitution. All such amendments shall be subject to ratification by the Patron in Chief.

GENERAL BODY MEETING AND
ANNUAL GET TOGETHER (2023)

Since its inception, the NIP Alumni Association (AA-NIP) has made great contribution in its mission to enable alumni-to-alumni connections and foster a meaningful, lasting relationship between alumni and the Institute/University. The AA-NIP provided a forum to maintain contacts among alumni all across the country with each other and the Institute. In the same lieu, the general body meeting and annual get together was held on December 16th, 2023 (Saturday) at National Institute of Psychology, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad.

The organizing team of the event included Prof. Dr. Rubina Hanif (Patron in Chief-AA-NIP), Ms. Raiha Aftab (General Secretary, AA-NIP), Mr. Tahir Elahi (for Finance/ Administrative Support). Faculty, NIP also contributed in the execution of the event as Dr. Nelofer Rauf (food committee coordinator), Dr. Irum Naqvi (Stage Program Coordinator), Dr. Humaira Jami and Dr. Aisha Zubair (Reception Committee members), Dr. Imran and Mr. Usman Chohan (Registration committee members), Ms. Riffat Zahir, Mr. Usman Chohan and Mr. Abdul Qayum (Alumni election committee) Ms. Sara Imtiaz (Executive Board member, AA-NIP), and A large number of alumni, current students, their families, and faculty of NIP participated in the event.

Formal proceedings of the program commenced with the recitation of Holy Quran. The Alumni gathering took place at National Institute of Psychology, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad on 16 December 2023. Prof Dr. Tanvir Akhar (President AA-NIP) member alumni association and NIP faculty welcomed all worthy guests. The day was full of celebrations, joy, colors followed by six executive body elections. In this regard, entertainment program was presented by the students of NIP. Major highlights of the program included multiple activities comprising music, tableau performances, funny skits, mimes, cultural walk, and poetry. The audience also enormously enjoyed the instrumental music and songs; while senior alumni shared their throwback and nostalgic memories of NIP.

Later, NIP alumni members casted their votes for the sixth alumni executive board. Around one hundred NIP alumni casted their votes on that day. The selected board consists of Prof. Dr Najma Iqbal Malik (Chairperson Department of Psychology, University of Sargodha) as President, Dr Aneela Maqsood (Director National Centre for Research on Suicide Prevention, Fatima Jinnah Women University, Rawalpindi) as Vice president, Dr. Irum Naqvi (General Secretary, Faculty, NIP), Dr. Nelofer Rauf (Coordinator, Faculty NIP) Other Executive members selected via elections were Dr Haziq Mehmood (Acting Chairperson Department of Applied Psychology, UMT, Lahore), Dr Tasnim Rehna (Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology NUML University), Miss Lariab Naseer (Current M.Phil student at NIP). Three members including Dr. Haleema Sadia, Ms. Raiha aftab, and Ms. Sara Imtiaz were elected from faculty NIP. In the end Director NIP, Ex-president and vice president welcomed the new Alumni board and wish them best for their future ventures.

In the end, Prof. Dr. Rubina hanif (Patron in Chief- AA-NIP) showed gratitude to the guests for their arrival and presented shields to the 5th Alumni executive board members. She shared her joy on seeing alumni as significant part of NIP and their warm hearted involvement in the event. After the program a lavish lunch was served. The lunch was attended by approximately more than 300 guests including Alumni and their families, faculty, and current students.
